Why Do I Write?

I write in order to enter a new, somewhat unfamiliar world. I either try to view the world through the eyes of another, with whom I can relate at least a little, and then write about what I think the world would be like looking through those eyes, or I write about an experience or experiences with which I am personally acquainted and hope that when others read it, it will make them see the world a little bit differently than before, and then I wait for their reactions. Either way, I find myself trying to understand others in the hope that they will understand--and appreciate--me, or at least my work.
