Tall ships once sailed the oceans deep -
The sea’s call met on distant shores.
With sails unfurled, no hand could sleep,
In haste for home with hard won stores.
From high atop their swaying posts,
The lookouts scanned thick roiling mist,
With eyes that sought marauding hosts,
Each set to fight with axe and fist.
But when the battle was engaged,
Though bravely faced by ev'ry hand,
The swells and waves so massive raged,
Not one aboard would see dry land.
Tall ships now ply the ocean floors -
Proud portals all, Valhalla’s doors.
