The Vietnam Veteran's Memorial,
a long dark wall.
The black granite glistens in the sun,
never to break nor fall.
How can something be so beautiful
but horrible at the same time?
I walk a little farther down the path
and trace my fingers through the lines.
So many sad faces
are at the wall today.
And I look over at a little girl
who gets on her knees to pray.
I trace my fingers through a name;
a teenage boy named Seth.
And I feel the cold shivers, down my back
as I touch finger tips with death.
So many lives were taken
and never to be returned.
And so many wives and children
with hearts that ache and burn.
I leave a flower at the wall
for all the soliders who have died.
and think of all the families
who'ved lied at night and cried.
