evidence of my obsession wit the written word
dress me in words
as bright and dark as my own soul--
clothe me in simile
and metaphor
and images as tragic and clear as the night--
house me in the bows of their spines-
shelter me in the arch of their world-
give me books to suckle-
ideas to chew-
feed me with their substance--
and i shall be richer than all upon the earth-
dressed finer-
live in a house more stately and comfortable-
grow fat with knowledge-
i shall be queen of this world
with my clauses and phrases
and rhyme schemes-
a pentametric and hexametric existence of flow
and rhythm--
paragraphs and chapters of breath and blood--
yes, give me my books-
and you may have the rest--
my currency is thought
and creation-
my change-syllables--
my check- a climax-
(there is a reason it is both a sexual and literary term at once)--
i cannot pay my rent in symbolism-
true-
but can you go through wormholes and time and history
and love and hate and
the-
very-
soul of another
with your gold card-your american express-
your roll of bills--
no-and therein lies my pity for you--
you may not pay your way into
the fantasy of my reality-
you are sadly-
tragically-
all moneyed up and nowhere to truly go--
