A jazz ballad about a double act that takes an interesting new turn. |
A Partnership of Interesting Contrasts a jazz ballad: co-written with Emily Tesh CHRIS I'm not a moral kind of guy And fables bore me silly All I wanted was a bit of cash But things got slightly chilly When I put my name on that contract I thought things would be just fine But the thing about working with women is Read the fine print before you sign! They were a double act and going places Had a lot of talent and pretty faces But the act was going stale so they were after something new. Thought they'd bring in a bass for the change of pace You can bet there was a bit of a race Said they wanted me I was their cup of tea So what else could I do? DANI + EMILY We're a partnership of interesting contrasts And our difference is our style Wouldn't think that we could hold it together But we've been at this for a while We've ups and downs and all in betweens We're the prettiest little pair that you've ever seen We're a partnership of interesting contrasts And we go the extra mile EMILY You could say that showbiz is my passion Got a great big voice and a taste for fashion But the lights of Broadway, they don't shine for a girl all on her own Well two pretty girls is better than one We're twice as sexy and three times as fun We tried to match But it didn't catch And the answer's what you see We're a partnership of interesting contrasts It seems crazy but it's true We're a double act of opposite numbers One of me and one of you One tall, one short, one fierce and one sweet We're the most different pair that you ever will meet We're a partnership of interesting contrasts At a theatre near you DANI Well we started talking props and lighting And it wasn't long till we were fighting Cause for every one of her ideas I had to disagree We really don't get on at all But when we hit the stage we have a ball It's quite a show I'll have you know And here's the reason why We're a partnership of interesting contrasts She goes left and I go right When one's tucked up in bed with her Bible The other's out dancing all night One goes to church and one plays at dice It's up to you - do you want naughty or nice? We're a partnership of interesting contrasts One's a honey, one's got bite. EMILY What do you do when a good act starts getting old? What do you do when your audience starts going cold? We thought we'd try from another angle We baited our line and let it dangle We tried to go from two to three Cause we were both deprived of male company But we didn't realise when we entered that hell That the line was baiting us as well DANI What do you do when you catch a really good bass? Suddenly problems were staring us right in the face Cause his looks were good and his voice was better He fit the profile to the letter And we both realised before too long Our relationship was going wrong Cause we're very different as you can see DANI + EMILY But on one thing we both agree... CHRIS So much to lose How can I choose? Both ends of the scale and I'm stuck in the middle It's sink or swim No way to win So let out the beasts and let the carnage begin They're a partnership of interesting contrasts And I'm starting now to find That I can't decide on one or the other Without leaving somebody behind It's too late now but I shoulda been warned Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned It's a partnership of interesting contrasts And my death warrant's just been signed. DANI We'd been working together for nearly three years We had each other almost bored to tears When two girls get that close it just ain't right EMILY When you've spent your working life in female company A good looking bass is something fine to see DANI + EMILY So forgive us if we both wanted a bite DANI + EMILY We're a partnership of interesting contrasts And it won't be lasting long I would give it maybe two or three minutes Past the ending of this song Our tastes are different but our aims are the same We fight for love and we strike for fame It's a partnership of interesting contrasts And it's a dangerous kind of game, Dangerous kind of game, Dangerous kind of game... CHRIS Dangerous kind of game. |
