My name is Mike. It is the year 2080. That everybody is sure of at least.
“Oh no!” I yelled
“The engines have heated up too much, we’re going to have to stay for a while. Well, it’s not like we’ve got anywhere to go, since Mia hasn’t seen anything recently. We’ll manage. I’ll go and get us some food. Khadijah will need some after she finished healing you, Mia.”
I checked my pocket for enough titanium then left.

My name is Mike. It is the year 2080. That everybody is sure of at least. The world recently melted after its second major ice age forty years ago. Life had just begun twenty years ago; almost no one used technology anymore.
The human race had survived: some forced to evolve in a short space of time, effects were unexpected; elves, dwarves and fairies plus some other unknown creatures. Entirely whole new races. Us, children have more knowledge of the world and had been treasured until The Renegade Diversion, -which I will tell you about later- now there are no schools and only place you could find a mass of technology was a hospital. Only clever people owned cars, made by themselves, most being children.
Mia and I had been best friends since she saved my life work by warning me about her premonition of a flash gang stealing from my garage and bashing up my hand-made but not quite finished mini-cooper convertible. I had taken her to live with me after going to visit her and seeing dump she lived in.
Then Khadijah showed up. The dark-skinned ninja elf had saved our skins so many times yet we still had doubt about fully trusting her, she had a shadowy past which we knew nothing of except that she was an orphan. Obviously there is the Race war between elves, humans, fairies and dwarves. Since then elves and humans had never lived in peace, yet here was an elf risking her very life and saving the butts of a human and a half fairy. Furthermore, Khadijah is younger than us. We are thirteen approximately, no one knew what day was which so we didn’t have birthdays, and Khadijah is eleven, a hatchling to her immortal race she says.
Well, we found out that only metal left on the earth is titanium so we use it for everything, because during the ice age titanium meteors dropped to the earth, so there’s plenty. We even use it for money which is what I’m going to use to buy us guys some food.
We kids aren’t special in anyway, so don’t start thinking anything. Elf, fairy and dwarf populations have risen even after the Renegade Diversion. S they aren’t rare endangered species, even half fairies and elves are more common these days.

I returned with crumpets and honey and tea and coffee. Thank goodness, Khadijah has finished healing Mia. Mia sees things; she has premonitions. Khadijah can heal anything except the dead, I invent things like our time travelling car. Life is cool and none of us have parents so we can do what we like. The car can only travel to the future sadly, but we get to help people and that's good enough for us.
"Mike, is the car okay to go?" Khadijah asks me.
"Yeah, sure but you know what?" I say.
"What?"
"Time travelling does nothing for my indigestion!"
"Too right." says Mia.
