The love of a three-year-old
Waiting

a little girl of about three is standing
in front of the front door with
her teddy in one hand and her blanket in the other.
The door opens and a tall skinny man comes through
and the girl gets and big wide smile on her face.
the man puts down his briefcase and hangs up his coat
and picks the girl up and kisses her on the forehead,
and the girl says "don't forget teddy."
"Oh of course not." and he kisses teddy on the head too.
The little girl giggles.
The man puts her down and says "its time for bed."
"Okay daddy." and she skips off to bed.
She gets in and her daddy comes and tucks her in
and kisses her goodnight.
The next day at the same time the little girl is
waiting by the front door. But he never comes in.
Mommy comes in and says "honey time for bed."
"But, but, but where's daddy?" as a tear comes to her eye
"daddy will be late tonight."
mommy picks her up and takes her to bed
and tucks her in and kisses her goodnight.
Five or ten minutes later there’s a ring at the front door
two men in suits are standing there "are u Mrs. Smith?"
"Yes I am." "What can i do for u gentle men?"
"Well miss I'm sorry to tell you this but your husband
has been killed in a car crash."
"WHAT, WHAT, WHAT?" "NO, NO, NO"
tears come to her eyes and she falls to the ground.
And she shuts the door and its slams and wakes the little
girl. She comes out to see what’s going on.
"What is it mommy? Where's daddy?"
The woman wipes the tears from her eyes.
"Honey daddy isn't coming home tonight
he had some business with God."
"Oh OK." the woman picks up the child
and takes her to bed and again.
the child hugs her mother and says "goodnight
mommy i love u." "i love u too honey."
That night the woman cried herself to sleep.
The next night the little girl is waiting in front
of the front door with her teddy and her blanket.
But this time daddy didn't come. And the little girl
goes into the kitchen and asks her mother "where’s daddy?"
"Is he still talking with God?
Why is he more important then me?"
"Honey daddy isn't coming home for along time."
"Daddy went to stay with God." "You'll see daddy again someday."
The woman picks up the child as she starts to cry
"I want daddy he tucks me in I WANT DADDY!"
"I know honey i know so do I."
Day after day the little girl would stand there and
sooner or later she stopped waiting.
And soon forgot about him he soon just
became a faint memory.
