Switch On, Switch Off What fun it is to be me! People’s hands know instinctively where I am. They may fumble around a little, but then they find me. They flip my little toggle with its small snapping sound And voila! There is light! Oh, aren’t I a wonder! Think of the accidents I’ve prevented, And the scares, on the stairs and even In the closets. Why, if it weren’t for me, More people would be wearing their Navy blue socks with their black shoes. I am the lightswitch, the handy, handy lightswitch. Kids, now that’s another matter entirely. I get a little ticked off just thinking about them. They flip me on and off and on and off and …. You get the picture. No respect, Until their parents yell at them, "Don't touch that lightswitch!" You can imagine how that makes me feel. I suppose I could try to look at it differently. I do like to be positive about things. Kids are just as excited as I am About the way they can change the world with The flip of my switch. I am magic! There, that is a better way to frame the problem. I am happier now. Happy, happy, happy. Hey, you, don’t you know you should turn me off when you leave! Save electricity for goodness sakes! Is it so hard to flick the switch? No respect. |
