A single solitary star Among so many shooting by The things they must have seen I wonder, do they see me I’m just sitting here Here in my corner This little pocket in the expanse of space Should I smile, should I wave Should I say hello Would they even hear me One lone hello in a sea of wishes They shoot, they fly They fall but never hit the ground A glimpse, a peek A fleeting look A hint that they were there They’re sight is so coveted The chance to make a wish They pass by But here I stay I’ve never moved I never will This place is all I’ve known I’ll grant your wish if I’m the first you see Just say the rhyme Ask me nicely And you’re dreams may soon come true But all the eyes Just pass me by The rhyme forgotten, thrown away Along with countless childish things For who has time to make a wish Upon a lazy star That simply sits And does not move The whole night through But here I stay There are other lazy stars up here But they are just as loved As those who can’t be still These members of exclusive clubs These stars that form the constellations By themselves they’re just like me All alone they are not special But together they are famous They are great pictures in the sky Symbols to inspire awe They’re names are known Far and wide I’m not so sure I have a name All alone With no name I am not seen Way up here But here I stay |
