An elegy for my cousin, Mike. Also the reason I started writing after 13 years.
We had to go and bury my cousin today.
Little gray haired guy in his head wouldn't go away.

He liked fishing and hunting, rocks and history.
Now he's just sleeping, and I'm telling his story.

His parents did everything a parent could.
Little gray haired guy kept him up to no good.

Much as Mike had tried to better himself.
He just couldn't keep that booze on the shelf.

If the little gray haired guy could have just stopped saying.
Take a drink; take a drink- right now we wouldn't be praying.

Several times throughout he checked into Valley Hope.
I thought he would get better, without his liquid dope.

But that little gray haired guy inside of his head.
In the end always had to be the victor instead.

With God and family and friends, all in that order.
Just may be why I don't cross that dead end border.

Sometimes I wonder if that shouldn't have been me?
Lying in my best suit, in a casket, under a tree.

To the little gray haired guy we lost, your elbow he liked to bend.
But now I find at such heavy cost, he was your friend to the end.

In a time like this all we end up with is our memories.
Younger days us having fun, raising hell, shooting the breeze.

The sadness and depression will make you question you see.
If maybe that little gray haired guy- is inside of me?

Mike loved photography and just about all kinds of nature.
Isn't it fitting going to cemetery, deer crossing highway to pasture.

The little gray haired guy; you put an end to his voice.
We know not your thoughts; but we found out your choice.

But we all lost so much more that day, a big piece of our heart.
On this cold and snowy November day, for now we must part.

(RIP Mike, 3/2/61 - 11/8/2005)
