Everyone gives at Christmas time. But what of next week? What of next month? |
His Way By Marilyn Mackenzie December 2003 All around us now we see, In awe, the Christmas glitter, Christmas trees, mistletoe, Kid’s on Santa’ lap giggle. Love and smiles are all around. The Christmas spirit is here. Love is shown by giving now. Everyone wants to spread cheer. But what of next week? What of next month? Will we still see the family Needing help the whole year through? Will we drop coins or give Even though the year is new? Love was born on Christmas Day; His name is Jesus, the Son. Peace should be in our hearts now; Sharing and giving are one. But what of next week? What of next month? We’re loved by Him, no matter How much or how little our sum. We are blessed with plenty; Should we give to those with none? Should we share love and joy and peace, No matter the time of year? Should we reach out and offer help, Or just shed a useless tear? Next week, reach out and help a friend; Next month give the gift of you. Watch and see as your heart and soul Sing out, are blessed and renewed. I wrote this poem as I sat on the side of my bed in a shelter for abused women in early December, 2003. I also wrote this while I was at the shelter:
