True story of my youngest daughter's birth.
“Sarah’s Bear”
By

December 2, 2006
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You entered my life
On the last day of the year
But for for such a long time
We couldn’t be near

You were born weak and sick, had to be taken away
Put in an incubator, from my touch, far away

I visited and watched you
Through your plexiglass walls
I feared and hoped for you
My child, so small

I was a young man
And you were my new baby
I feared and hoped for you
Oh, my dear child, daily

I longed to see you grow healthy and free
Leave the plexiglass walls shutting out me

I felt sad for you
You looked so lonely
All that I could do
Was give you a bear, a toy

Little did you know
I kept that toy
Presented it to you
Once you had little ones of your own

A look of joy passed over your face
You remembered the bear
From that fateful place

Now you have a story
A heirloom to pass
To your young ones
When they ask

Mother, what of the bear?
How did you get him?
From where?
From where?
