My entire life I was told that guys were the poison in this world. Usually my mother told me that but this time it was my sister. You see, my dad disappeared out of our life the minute my mother told him she was having a third child. No one knows why but all we do know is that he is fighting for custody of me now and honestly, I don’t want to go. I love the town I’m in and I don’t want to move. I mean come on would you ever go with a father who abandoned you when you weren’t even born and seventeen years later he comes back wanting to know you?
The only real reason my mom says that now is because her husband Josh had to leave for a job offer in New York. She didn’t want to go so now they are starting to consider divorcement. When I told my best friend Kylie Summers she flipped! She knew that it would reflect my decision on going out with a guy she picked for a double date on Saturday.
“Don’t even try backing out Holly! This is a date you will never forget!” Kylie screamed. “This guy isn’t like your dad or Josh, he would never disappoint you. He is perfect for you. I can feel it, you will love him. Plus he said that he likes you.”
“I’m not backing out, and if I don’t like him I’m not leaving because my sister and Josh have been going at it forever! Plus my dad will be there with his lawyer.” I said with a not to happy look and attitude.
“Great! I will be by around 5:30 to help you with your wardrobe!” She was so happy when she said that. “It’ll be perfect!”
Later that night, my mom told me that I should be careful with guys because she didn’t want me to get hurt, especially if for some reason she doesn’t get custody. I knew that I shouldn’t ask about the hearing because when she spoke of it she had sadness in her eyes reflecting her heart. I never liked to pry so I didn’t; instead I just ignored everything that happened in Mai family dispute. I had no control about the past, but hopefully I could prevent anything like this happening to me.

Saturday rolled around quicker than I would have liked. I never really thought about it until Kylie showed up with a huge pile of clothes in her hands.
“What is all of this?” I asked as my eyes grew larger than ever before.
“This, my friend, is your get ready party!” She replied with a gracious smile.
“Oh, how could I have forgotten? Anyway, why did you have to drag me into this thing? I mean, I am totally capable of finding my own date.”
“Well, obviously you can’t. If you could, then, I wouldn’t be your matchmaker.”
“So, what did you bring?” I asked with sigh of exhaustion.
An hour passes by and finally we were ready. The doorbell finally rings and my brother Mac answered it. When Kylie and I come downstairs I see her brother Kye. That was when I turned around and asked her why Kye was here and all she told me was that her mom wouldn’t let her go out unless she found a date for her brother.
I was coming down the stairs when my mother told me that she loved the way I looked tonight. Kylie had pinned up the top layer of my hair and had made subtle curls with the hair that was left to flow. I was wearing a sliming floor length black spaghetti strap dress that gave of a shimmer from the silk, my hair still long enough to make the straps look like they have never been there. Mac gave an astonishing look at me then at Kylie in her lovely blue silk strapless floor length. Of course her hair two hours to do so she did it at her house, the only catch was, all she did was straighten it.
“You look great, Holly.” Complimented Kye, “You look nice too, Kylie.”
Obviously Kylie helped him get dressed, because he was wearing dark blue jeans with faded streaks down the pant legs, and a very proper looking black button down shirt with the top button undone and no tie, my favorite thing was his hair. He had it as his normal short but long straightened, I don’t give a crap look. Then Jason, Kylie’s boyfriend of six months tonight, was wearing his ever so wonderful blue jeans with faded ripples on them and his wallet chain and a grey button down shirt with the top button undone also. Jason had his hair done as his normal preppy run through with his hand look.
“Thank you Kye.” I responded, “So I guess we should go, good bye mom.” Just as we were heading to the door, it opened and my father, along with his attorney walked through the door.
“Holly,” where do you think your going?” He asked.
         “I have a date tonight. Plus even if I didn’t I wouldn’t stay here.”
“Fine, but when I get custody of you, there will be no dating.” You could hear him starting to raise his voice.
“Who said that I was going to ever stay with you?” I mumbled.
“What was that? You know guys don’t like it when girls act like a nosy brat.” He responded.
“How would you know? You got my mother pregnant three times then walked out the door. I wouldn’t be who I am if my arrogant father put any effort into raising me.” I screamed. He just stood there and watched me walk out of the house.

It was a silent car ride to the restaurant, and when we arrived everything that night fell into place as perfectly as possible.
“Well, now you have met my parents, I don’t blame you if you all hate me for ruining the beginning of the evening.” I said to break the silence.
“We don’t hate you! We hate your father, just as you do.” Kylie said. “Any way, I was going to wait until later, but I already talked to your parents about this and it is all up to you all. Here goes, I have convinced my parents to let us use the cabin in the mountains for an entire week!”
“That sounds great!” We all murmured.
“So its set, we leave on Wednesday!” Kylie said anxiously.
“That is wicked! One week away from the home of chaos but mainly, my so called father.” I shrieked.

Kye dropped me off last even Kylie wasn’t there, she insisted to be driven home by Jason from his house. So we stepped out of the door and walked me up the front door.
“You looked great tonight Holly. I hope you enjoyed yourself.” Kye smiled.
“You looked very handsome tonight, Kye. I want you to know that I had a fabulous time, and I would love to go out again.” I responded.
“Great. Well, um, good night Holly.” Kye said.
“Good night Kye.” I replied and kissed him good night.

The next morning wasn’t something I would ever want to wake up to again. The phone was ringing of the hook all morning when finally Mac came into my room and said that Kye had been calling since 2 A.M.
“Your boyfriend even received a scolding from dad the first five times he called. Yet the phone I still ringing, Holly, he is creepy so watch out for yourself, Okay?” He said with a grumpy attitude.
“Mac he is harmless, but to avoid an argument I’ll watch my back.” I said half asleep. So when I went downstairs my parents and their lawyers were still arguing and my father tried scolding me for having phone calls before dawn. “Hello?”
“Holly! Finally, nobody would put you on the phone!” Kye seemed nervous.
“Kye, are you going to do this every day? I usually don’t wake up until nine a.m. in the summer, even ask Kylie…” I said in an annoyed way.
“Holly, I’ve been calling so much because Kylie and Jason were in a vehicle accident on their way home last night. Kylie didn’t make it, neither did Jason. Holly, it…”
“Kye, how did…?” I asked as tears started to build up.
“There were deer and oncoming traffic, it wasn’t her time Holly. This whole mess is such a nightmare. My mom isn’t even crying, she’s on a cleaning rampage,” says Kye.
Kye’s mother then picks up the other end of the phone and all you can hear is sobbing. “Holly,” says Mrs. Summers “Even though this awful event has happened, I still want you to go on the ski trip to Colorado.”
“I don’t think that would right, because… you know… it WAS her trip. It just wouldn’t be right,” I replied.
“Yeah, Holly, maybe we should go. It would be a great way to get out of town, especially with everything that’s been happening the past couple days. We could really relax out there, you know?” stated Kye.
“I guess you’re right,” I agreed “and that would still help me get away from my dad, because if he finds out what happened, he’ll never let me leave the house again.”
“Then its set,” says Mrs. Summers,” you’ll leave early Wednesday morning.”
“Okay, Holly, I’ll see you then,” says Kye.
         “Okay,” I reply.
“Wait! Holly, before you go, don’t forget that the visitation will be tomorrow afternoon at 4 o’clock.”
“I’ll be there,” I promised. We all hung up the phone.

The next day it was turning three o’clock, and I was just preparing to get ready for the funeral when my mother walked into the bathroom.
“So I hear that you’re still going on that ski trip.” Said my mom.
“Yeah we are leaving Wednesday in the morning.” I stated.
“Your father will not be pleased with your decision.”
“Forget him! He never cared about me before, so if he does care, then he will allow me to go away for a while.”
Kye arrived at three forty-five and we drove to the cemetery for the burial. It was so sad to know that my best friends were leaving me behind to go to a better place. I couldn’t help but cry at the thought of never seeing her again.
“Hey girl, how are you holding up?” Asked Jaci.
“Good I guess, we are actually leaving town for a week to deal with things.” I replied.
“Really? Where are you going?” she asked.
“Yeah, we are taking the trip that Kylie had planned for us.” I said, “Why don’t come along?”
“That would be fabulous! I mean a week away would defiantly be relaxing.” Responded Jaci as she walked away.”

Wednesday rolled around like a slow motion movie. I was so glad to load up that Mitsubishi Indever. There was just enough room in the trunk for all three of their two suitcases each. We were saying our goodbyes and then we jumped into the SUV and we drove away.

We drove for five hours and finally needed gas. We pulled up and there was one other car besides us there. Kye was filling up the tank and Jaci went to the restroom, and I went to stock up on water and food. We were getting into the car when Jaci comes back with a complete stranger.
“Hey, guys, this is Dylan Mitko.” Jaci said.
         “Okay…” I started.
“He is coming with us to the cabin where his brother will pick him up.” She smiled.
“Listen, whatever, we need to go.” I stated.

When we finally reached the cabin, Dylan called his brother and about one hour later his brother finally showed up. Knock Knock Knock.  When I answered the door, a guy around our age stepped right in and started laying questions down for Dylan to answer.
“What the hell were you thinking?” He asked. “You do not hitch hike! You should have just called me!”
“I’m guessing you’re the brother?” I asked him.
“Yeah, I’m Ethan, sorry that I lost my manners.” He said.
“Sure, whatever.” I said. “So here is your brother, and um… it was no problem bringing him up here.”
         “Thank you again.” He said.

We saw Dylan and Ethan snowboarding the next morning.
         “Well hello, Holly!” screamed Dylan.
“Hi, um, Dylan.” I yelled back.
I was walking a little further when Ethan almost ran me over.
“Holly, I am so sorry!” He said as he pulled me up into standing position when everything started to get weird between us. We were standing so close that we could feel each others heart beating faster.
“Ethan! How could you! You almost killed her!” Dylan started screaming and pushing Ethan.
“Chill out man! Holly is just fine.” Ethan screamed back.
I just stood there; I mean I was really trying to gather my thoughts after being so close to Ethan. I don’t know why but it seems that I have feelings for him but how? I barely even know him. Yet it seems like maybe he has affection for me just as well.
“I need to go.” I said as I walked off, leaving them both speechless.

Later that night Jaci and Kye went into town to get some supplies. There was a knocking on the door so I opened it to find Ethan standing in front of the door.
         “Hi Holly.” He said.
“Hey Ethan, what are you doing here?” I asked.
“Well I wanted to apologize for the way we treated you earlier.”
“Don’t worry, its totally fine.” I replied.
         “So…”
         “Yeah, so…” I continued, “What’s up?”
“Well, actually I’m going to get this off of my chest, okay? Well if you haven’t noticed, I kind of like you. I don’t know, when I saw you, it was like, wow that girl is beautiful and I wish I could see her more.” He said bashfully.
“Wow, I hope you realize that I love my boyfriend, you know, Kye.” I said with a confused tone.
“I know that well, but I can’t help but feel that you do like me a lot.” He said as he stepped close enough to kiss her. They kissed for a long time, over and over, she finally felt like the emotions of grief dissipating inside of me. Until the front door opened and Kye standing there shocked to find me making out with another guy.
“Jaci took a trip to the slopes; I’m going to catch the next bus home. You to are perfect for each other, I hope your happy together. Good-bye Holly.”

Three days later the phone started ringing; when I answered it was Mrs. Summers.
“Hi sweetie! I was calling to check in, Kye hasn’t called so…” she said.
“But he went home three days ago. He should have been home by now.”
“Oh my god!” she screamed. “Do you think he is okay?”
“Of course! Kye is fine I promise! I need to go okay? Call if you hear anything okay?” I said.
“Of course sweetie. Good bye!” she sobbed.

Nobody heard from Kye in days and when I went to see Ethan, he was missing also.
“Ethan? Ethan? Any one home?” I yelled out, the front door was open so I took a look around. I know it was brown-nosing but I was worried. I saw the entrance to the cellar was wide open so I took a peek down the stairs when next thing I knew, warm hands were using much force and shoving me down the stairs.

When I woke up I was caged up like an animal. I heard noise so I ran to the back of the cage and asked “Who’s there?”
“It’s us Holly! Kye and Ethan.” Responded Kye.
         “Where are we?” I asked.
“I can answer that. You are my prey. I mean come on why else would I need you to come out to the cabin?” the almost familiar voice said. “I loved you since I saw you Holly. That’s why when I found out that Kylie was bringing you here; I thought it was just you and her. But no instead when I kill your friend and then find out that your boyfriend was coming. But what truly went sour was the fact that you fell for my brother. Now you act as though you don’t remember that you shouldn’t pick up strangers Holly.”
         “Dylan?” I asked.
“Of course!” Dylan laughed, “By the way I should tell you that your not going to live with you parents, you’ll stay here forever.” He said in that psycho killer voice.
“You’re crazy; I will never do anything for or with you.” I screamed.

I never exactly figured out how I ever got out of that cage but I do remember that I was home again with Ethan safe also. Sometimes I can remember bits and pieces but now I just live my life with two families soon to be three. My mother for the school year, and my father for the vacation time. The best family is the family with Kye, Ethan, Jaci and Kylie who will always be in my heart.
Rest in Peace Kylie Summers
Good-bye Stalker
By the way, if you haven’t guessed Dylan got away, nobody knows where to but, hopefully he will be found and get the help needed.
