The Asteroid Belt War

The clouds are not just water droplets that have accumulated in the sky. When you can see shapes of animals and boats and trees, those things are really there. In fact one day when the clouds had the shapes of a dragon, a flying creature with a chameleon's head, a huge caterpillar, two bushy eyed monsters, and a unicorn there was a war.

You see, the dragon and the two bushy eyed monsters were out to destroy the earth and it's inhabitants. They got a hold of the solar system's asteroid belt and were pushing it at high speeds towards the earth. The flying chameleon, caterpillar and unicorn saw this and they pushed on the asteroid belt from the opposite direction. Now nobody was moving anywhere because the "clouds" were of equal strength. Finally the dragon yelled, "Stop this nonsense! We will decide this by war!" The dragon and two bushy eyed monsters let go of the asteroid belt. The chameleon, caterpillar, and unicorn kept pushing on it. They were having a hard time hanging on though, because the dragon and two monsters were pulling on them and thrashing them with their claws. They finally let go and the asteroid belt started to float harmlessly through space. The war was on. The unicorn stabbed at the dragon with his horn. The caterpillar tickled bushy eyed monster number one with his antennae, bushy eyed monster number two hit the flying chameleon on the head with his huge hands. Bam, pow, he-he-he, shing! These were the sounds heard across the sky.

Of course this drew the attention of other "clouds." There was a cloud shaped like an eel that came in on the dragon's side. Another was a lion who started fighting the eel.

It was getting dark now and the moon was now visible, high in the sky. An owl could be heard faintly under the noise of the "clouds" warfare. The fury of each cloud turned them to a dark gray. You can understand what happened next. The eel started shooting electric sparks at the lion. The lion roared creating a rumbling sound. Soon all the "clouds" were crying in pain from their wear and tear. The war, or storm as people on earth would perceive it, raged on. Lightning from the eel flashed everywhere. He was using it as a sword against the lion. The unicorn came to the lion's defense, using his horn as a sword. The dragon was right on the unicorn's tail, the fire from his breath appearing as lightning to the inhabitants of earth. Bushy eyed monster number one pushed the caterpillar in the wake of the dragon's fire. The caterpillar's antennae were singed taking away his tickling weapon.

The lion roared loudly, this time sounding a war cry for all other "clouds" to hear. Many "clouds" of several different shapes and sizes came from all directions. The power of that movement created high winds and a loud rumble like thunder and many of them sweat buckets or cried.

The high winds created, blew the aimlessly floating asteroid belt right into the heart of the fighting. This reminded all of their objectives. "Clouds" from both sides started to push in opposite directions on it. Lightning flashed as the eel tried to push the unicorn off the belt with his electricity. Thunder! A huge sting ray came though. It started stinging the caterpillar, unicorn, lion, and flying chameleon and all within their ranks. Black crows flew through the madness and landed on a tree which was struck by the eel's sword. The tree started burning. People on earth were terrified as lightning struck more trees. The dragon swooped his hand down and grabbed a little boy of about 7 and dangled him in front of the unicorn. "If you let us do what we set out to do, this one will live."

"They should all be able to live!" the unicorn yelled as the lion went to save the little boy. The dragon picked up on the lion's move. He closed his hand without crushing the boy. The boy let out a scream. The caterpillar, being small in the "cloud" world was able to get into the dragon's hand unnoticed. When the dragon closed his hand he felt the fuzzy caterpillar tickle his fingers and quickly opened his hand again. This left room for the lion to snatch the boy and get him on his back. This got the dragon angry. He started going after the lion. The warfare started again. Lightning flashed as the eel again used his electricity. The chameleon's color changed to a dark black as he fought hard. The unicorn used his horn to charge into the dragon's army and the lion, with the boy, stowed away to get to the asteroid belt.

Unfortunately the lion and the boy were noticed by the two bushy eyed monsters. They stared the pursuit, calling for all available troops to help. Soon the lion and boy were being pursued by thousands of evil "clouds." The lion bounded downwards and back behind many of the troops on their side. The boy now was calm feeling safe on the lion's back.

Despite the boy's calmness the dragon of course still had every intention of getting him back for ransom. "Give me the boy or the asteroid belt will hit the earth for sure!"

"Even if we gave you the boy, you'd still do everything you could to make that happen!" the chameleon shot back.

This infuriated the dragon. He charged his entire army and the battle raged on.

People on earth stood amazed and frightened of course. No one left the premises though. Some stayed and tried to put the fires out, others just stared at the raging clouds and lightning, some stared calling for any guns and shooting them towards the sky.

"What is your name, little one?" the lion asked the boy.

"Jonathan." the boy replied. "Well, Jonathan you have no need to worry. You will return to your parents unharmed. But not yet. In time. Just hold onto me until then."

"Okay." Jonathan hugged the lion tight. Fear still gripped him slightly. Several creatures from the dragon's ranks went in to surround the lion, but the unicorn, caterpillar and others got to the lion first. Jonathan was now in the middle of major fighting. Soon the whole army of clouds fighting to save the earth all started moving as a single unit towards the floating asteroid belt. The dragon's army did the same thing. Imagine being on earth and seeing all the clouds moving at rapid speeds towards the asteroid belt which is floating in the sky in your view. That's what it looked like to the people who were watching from earth. They had stopped all activity once they realized how close to the earth the asteroid belt was and that the clouds were all moving rapidly towards it.

Jonathan rode on the lion's back as the lion, chameleon, unicorn, and their army started pushing on the asteroid belt. "Here." the lion gave him a mask and a sweater. "Put the sweater on. It'll keep you warm and the mask will help you breathe. We're going into space to put the asteroid belt back in it's place."

"When can I go home?" Jonathan asked as he put on the mask and the sweater. "All in good time." the lion replied.

Finally the asteroid belt was being pushed towards it's place. The dragon's army was in hot pursuit of the lion's. They started to thrash and pull at them. The unicorn fought them off with his horn, but then he was knocked out. The caterpillar went to dress the unicorn's wounds. The lion, chameleon and the rest kept pushing on the asteroid belt. The dragon and his army went around and started pushing on the asteroid belt back toward earth. The asteroids started to burst. Asteroid dust flew everywhere. The dragon was infuriated. He unleashed his whole army. The fighting was intensely escalating. "Clouds" were ripping apart everywhere as were asteroids. The dragon got close to Jonathan and the lion. Jonathan took a toy car out of his pocket and hit the dragon's foot. The dragon turned and began to move his hand to crush him, but the lion moved just in time to keep Jonathan from being crushed. Jonathan hit the dragon again on the other foot. The eel shot lightning all over trying to defend the dragon. He was destroyed and the lightning stopped. The sting ray was destroyed by the unicorn after he recovered. The dragon's army was dwindling. Finally there was nothing left of it or the asteroid belt. The dragon tried for one final blow to Jonathan and the lion but the lion lashed his paws with his claws out and Jonathan with all his might hit the dragon. The dragon broke up into little puffy clouds.

The lion's army tended to their wounded. The lion brought Jonathan down to earth. He slipped off of the lion's back and immediately found his parents. The people stood in awe staring at the lion that bounded out of the sky with a little boy on his back. The lion went up to the sky again and a flash of light spread across the people. All , but Jonathan forgot in an instant what had happened. To this day scientists still ponder what happened to the asteroid belt. Others still wonder what burned the trees and why there are bullets embedded in the ground at the spot where all this happened.
