Most Grateful Son By Guy Dickie My hand in yours, As we climbed, You lit each tread, A shining Quest. You wavered, struggled, Yet so brave And always, always Did your best. You led the way, So very long, And made my climb So undemanding. With Morals pure, Ethics strong. A Hero’s test, And you’re still standing. I won’t stop, Or turn back, Never stay down, My will won’t crack. I harvest good habits From you like a crop, Let nothing impede Our march to the top. It’s now time for me To take the lead. To show you a stair Of Silver, Crystal and Gold. For this you’ve shown me, Its beauty never grows old. I offer my hand, To the one I adore My Guide, my Teacher, Best friend and Mentor. The rest of the way, My Mother dear, You shall not want, Need, or fear. Plush rug under toes, Chandeliers over head, Sweet scent for your nose, The best lay ahead. Each landing so vast With room to stretch out, Walls covered in photos Let there be no doubt, Smiling faces and embraces A true sign of love That my Father, Your Husband, Watches down from above. |
