For carers, organisations and you. In the UK 500,000 cases of vulnerable adult abuse
Like an iceberg, with only the tip showing,
Abuse of the elderly frail, is mostly hidden.
We are all aware, or should be, knowing
Thousands live in fear, but are forbidden
To tell, threatened if they want to speak,
They’re the vulnerable, old, ill and weak.

What are we all doing? We must not ignore
The evidence that researchers have shown.
When will we all declare: Enough! No more!
Five hundred thousand cases are it's known.
Just the exposed tip of the iceberg we can see!
What is happening to us, within our society?

Abuse may start small, but like a malignancy
It spreads treacherous tendrils to ensnare.
None of us can, or should, sit in complacency,
We must make a stand, show that we do care.
Just beneath the surface an evil current flows
Drags all into the maelstrom, so this ‘cancer’ grows.

Abuse is ugly, in every shape and torrid form,
Physical, psychological, sexual; every kind.
Abuse is not loving, or acceptable as the norm.
You can’t hide from truth, you need to know, to mind.
You must look behind respectable, there is no excuse,
You can make a difference, melt this iceberg of abuse.
