Abuse of vulnerable elderly. This song is to raise awareness of a hidden growing problem
I'd appreciate your review.
This song I have written to make people aware of the problem of vulnerable and elderly who are being abused in their millions around the world. This is being considered for recording by a charity in the UK. Last year 500,000 cases were known about in the UK , hence the title.
There are approximately 11 million pensioners in the UK.

This is not about syllable count, it does fit the tune.

Five Hundred Thousand And Rising

Is there someone who’s elderly, someone somewhere,
Who needs you to notice, who needs you to care?
Women and men who are frightened and confused,
But if you look closer, they’re also abused.

Elderly and frail, they live with daily fears,
Might feel helpless, hopeless, and too numb for tears.
Do you look around, could there be someone you know,
Who pulls down their sleeves so the bruises don’t show.

Last night slapped and punched, when they wet the bed,
By those that should love them, they wish that they were dead.
They’ve given so much, they’ve lived through a war,
Now they’re hardly living, they’re tired and so sore.

There’s five hundred thousand and rising,
They’re the vulnerable elderly, being abused.
We can’t turn away, we can’t be disguising
The fact that so many are battered and misused.
Now you know there are so many, do you feel any shame?
Five hundred thousand and rising; who is to blame?

It isn’t just physical, look and you will find
Insults and taunts are given, that abuse an old person’s mind,
Suffering in silence ‘cause they’re too weak to fight,
They’re waiting for someone, just like you, to notice their plight.

Maybe they are sick and scared, cared for in a bed,
Can you be really sure that they’re being fed?
Do they need help with every meal, just so that they eat?
Are carers too busy ‘cause they’re rushed off their feet?

Is there someone you know, who hopes that you’ll see,
That they are losing out, maybe financially?
Or are they being touched in a way they do not choose?
Can you be alert for you can stop all this abuse?

There’s five hundred thousand and rising,
They’re the vulnerable elderly, being abused.
We can’t turn away, we can’t be disguising
The fact that so many are battered and misused.
Now you know there are so many, do you feel any shame?
Five hundred thousand and rising; who is to blame?

Is there someone near you know, someone somewhere,
Who needs you to notice, who needs you to care?
Women and men who are frightened and confused,
But if you look closer, they’re also abused.

Please can’t you look closer and notice they’re abused?
