A fairytale poem about true love and greed. |
Long, long ago, And far, far away, There existed a kingdom, So brilliant, yet at bay... She walked down the aisle, So beautiful in white. He waited impatiently, Eager for the wedding night. She was marrying a monster, To her it was a day of gloom. To him, she was the virgin bride, And he, the callously rich groom. She was in love with a begger, Or so everyone thought, But her father wanted money, So their love was for nought. As she took her last few steps, To everyones astonished awe, The king burst in, and behind him, Twas the peasant they saw. He ran forward to claim his love, Not a peasant, but the kings son. The villagers sat quietly As the kings voice begun. "I sent to you your prince, In seek of his future bride, But because he was dressed peasantly, You shunned him and threw him aside. He found his one true love, So beautiful and pure. Unlike her father and his greed, Her pain, my son, could not endure. He came to me for help And I say your prince shall have his bride. Her father shall have nothing, Until his greed is set aside." And so the story is told Of the peasant who was a prince, Of the girl who followed her heart, And the father who lost his cents.
