Soul Mates

                            Casually walking; taking a leisurely stroll;
                          I turn around and stop, frozen in my tracks.
                                I cannot take a step or even move.
                        My breathing becomes slow, labored, shallow;
        My heart beats faster gaining speed like a derby winner entering the
                                                home stretch.
                                    I am floating just above reality,
                        Hovering in a dream world of fantasy and desire,
                                          as I gaze into your eyes.
                              You stand transfixed, staring back at me.
                                  We become as statues; solid as stone.
                          No words have been spoken; no physical contact,
                    yet, I can feel your touch like a gentle caress of my face.
                  I can see light, laughter and promise reflected in your eyes;
                          and I know you see the same mirrored in mine.
                          The essence of your being burns into my soul.
                            We are united.  We are bound.  We are one.
            You reach out and take my hand as we continue walking together.
