I thought about you today
Remembering the times we never had
And now you try to be the one
To hold me up, to pull me close
I'm telling you it's not that simple
You can't act like it didn't happen

Here I sit again pondering the what ifs and why nots
You never were a father to me the way that I needed
But I love you just the same
And by His grace I can openly declare
This love for you is without any grudge

The day will come when we all realize
The past is nothing in His eyes
You've shown me love and I'm grateful
But now this cocoon must break
So the beauty designed within can be seen

And even though the rains will come
I am confident in Him
He'll lead the way and never let me stray
