Happy St Patrick's Day. My Irish Song written in the Ring of Kerry July 2006. |
I wrote this song sitting on a rock between two mountains, looking out across a beautiful valley, in The 'Ring of Kerry' in Southern Ireland. It is not based on a personal event. I am English not Irish. Sorry about the singing. Turn the volume down (or off). ** #1242961 Not An Audio Item ** Steep are the crags of the Macgillicuddy mountains, Steep are the mountains that slope down to the sea. Deep are the streams and the fast flowing rivers, Deep are the feelings that are stirring in me. I look across the picturesque valleys, I watch the birds fly, swoop and dive. I now realise that we are really over, For the first time for a long time, I feel so alive. I have been hoping and clinging to a memory Of a love that just didn’t last. But now I accept that it's over and done, It’s behind me and I’ve left it in the past. I’ve come home to Kerry, to Kerry's mountains, To the place where I was born. And my spirits are restored, I am healing, My heart's no longer broken and torn. I feel like I did back in my childhood, Again I feel happy and truly free And everyday it is a new beginning, And an excitement is starting and building in me. I look across the picturesque valleys, I watch the birds fly, swoop and dive. I now realise that we are really over, For the first time for a long time, I feel so alive. |
