Life Gets in the Way

There was a time so long ago; we dared to chase a dream.
But we were young and didn’t know, life isn’t always what it seems.
Now times have come and times have gone, and dreams have slipped away.
We’re finding more on the shower floor, what’s left just keeps turning grey.
Too many irons in the fire burning low.
Teenage ambition and desire where'd they go?
You don’t get what you want; you’re given what you need.
There must be something more, yeah must be something more.

You’re taking life as it comes, and living day to day.
Spend all your time on assembly line, Traffic jams and the PTA.
Somewhere deep inside you cries, the voice you hate to hear.
Questioning what might have been, if you had only faced your fears.
Just take a stand against the hand the dealer throws.
Set free your spirit and you’ll see how far it goes.
You can take what you want; no one gets it for free.

Make up your mind to take the time and kindle up the flame.
You gotta try to change your life, there is no one else to blame.
So listen to that voice in you, and then you’ll seize the day.
You never know how far you’ll go, if you never leave the gate.
Set yourself free to be the thing you always crave.
You’re on this ride for a short time then in your grave.
You can take what you want and someday you will see.
