A story of a young boy kidnapped by his parents. |
New Prompt: You’ve been kidnapped. I think it’s aliens, but I might be wrong. Tell what happened and why in a story or poem. (Extra credit if it’s child friendly, but that’s not mandatory.) Word Count: 497 I heard the footsteps down the hall. I shivered under my covers. Mom would only say, “You are hearing things.” Dad would say, “Go to sleep.” They say I am always hearing things. Today it was different. With each thud I could feel the floor shake. I kept telling myself, “I am only making this up. This isn’t real.” The door creaked slowly open. There was a shimmering green light. I secretly hopped I was invisible. Next thing I know these creatures with antennae pulled back my covers. A yellow beam shone down on me and I was transported up into a round cyclical figure, what I now call an Alien ship. I tried to yell that I am being kidnapped, but my voice box didn’t seem to work. In the background I heard a buzzing. I thought I saw my parents. I rubbed my eyes. “No it can’t be,” I told myself. We were all kidnapped. I tried to yell for help, but nothing came out. I passed out. When I awoke my parents were standing over me. They looked different somehow. They had little antennae growing out of their heads. I felt my head and I didn’t have them. They told me telepathically that everything was going to be all right. We were on our way home. They told me just to think and they could hear my thoughts. I thought about their antennae. They said they have been shaving them down until the home ship came for them. They said that we are not from Mars, but from a planet called Earth. They were stranded when their ship was shot down. They were waiting for the mother ship. They never told me because they weren’t sure whether their message got sent. I couldn’t believe my ears. They were telling me this was all true. I pinched myself to make sure I was awake and I yelled “Ow.” That proved it. This was real. I wasn’t dreaming. Why didn’t I have antennae? They told me it was because you get them during puberty. I wanted to know if there was anything else different about us and they said no. We are basically all the same, but our planet is more advanced than Mars. I thought about my friends back at my home. My parents said I would make new friends. We had a home and we would start all over again. I had to believe them. They were my parents. They had kidnapped me from all I knew. I was on a quest to begin a new life I never thought I had. Now I could be anything I wanted, I would no longer be the class clown. I would no longer be the weakling on the playground. I could make my destiny and begin to like this new life of mine. I was sublimely happy. I nodded to my parents and they understood. Kidnapping might be the best thing that ever happened to me. |
