Sitting in the dark, listening to my heart beat
I realize that I am lost.
Life is not as I planned.
Rain is pouring outside; the electricity is dead.
I am cut off from the world.
This body is no longer my own,
Covered against the cold.
I hear laughter, I am not alone.
It’s a twisted laughter that bathes my skin in oil.
The flashlight doesn’t show who’s laughing.
Lightening strikes and metal flashes from the foot of the bed.
The laughter grows louder with cold steel biting my forearm.
Pain and horror flood my body.
Blood and tears drain from me
As the steel rips my abdomen,
I realize the laughter is coming from me.
