(Tonya acts unaware of her surrounding)

TONYA
So Melissa, Do you have a boyfriend?

(Melissa takes a shot of liquor before she answers the question)

MELISSA
Uh, Nah, I uh, I’m single

TONYA
You date?

(Melissa appears to be more relaxed now after having another shot of liquor)

MELISSA
Yeah, I date.

TONYA
What type of guy you like? Tall, short…

(Melissa has a bashful look on her face. She is not making eye contact with Tonya.
She looks over toward the door and sees one of her gay friends.
Melissa was hoping that she wouldn’t see anybody she knew because she didn’t want
Tonya to find out that she’s a lesbian. The tomboyish friend walks over to their table. Melissa is nervous as hell. )

MELISSA
Hey Viv. What’s going on?

(Viv, the tomboyish friend checks out Tonya and gives Melissa the “thumbs-up” look. Viv reaches her hand out to Tonya to shake her hand.)

VIV
Oh, so this is the Tonya you’ve been talking about. I’ve heard a lot about you.

(Melissa breaks into the conversation that Viv and Tonya is about to have. Although Tonya knows Melissa is gay, Melissa doesn’t know that she knows. So she shifts the topic)

MELISSA
Hey Viv, I hear you’re performing tonight.

VIV
Yeah man, You and Tonya should come to the park to hear us jam

(Viv pulls out a cigarette the way men do.)

(Tonya has a curious look on her face.)

TONYA
I’d love to

VIV
Cool, I’ll look for you guys
(Viv sees someone else she knows across the room and walk away)

TONYA
What did your friend mean when she said that you talk about me all the time? (Tonya jokingly ask) Have you been talking about me?

MELISSA
Viv’s crazy. When she has a couple of drinks, she might say anything

TONYA
I see. Nothing I hate worse than an alcoholic friend or a friend that lies and keeps secrets.

(Tonya is determined to win the game that she thinks Melissa is playing. Tonya excuses herself from the table to go to the ladies room and to give Melissa time to think. Melissa leans back in her chair and gapes at Tonya perfectly shaped body as she walks to the ladies room.)

MELISSA
Damn!
(Melissa whisper to herself because Tonya’s body is “out-of-this-world and because she don’t want to lie about liking women She’s not ready to reveal her sexuality to Tonya just yet.)
