We all know what will happen: You will get older and older And you will be kept alive longer than any generation. 80 years, 90 years, 100 years you will live, because you will not die You will point the blame To the smokers and polluters, but you can't fool us: it was you who smoked and allowed the polluting and it will be your old age that marginalizes our incomes and forces us to nationalize health care. We have seen your glory days in the summer of '69 and we have watched your films and heard your rhetoric. It was you who took the credit when your parents passed civil rights legislation. And since that time you have walked around proudly in a self serving haze, But it was you in control as the auto industry folded as social security went bankrupt politics turned into a machine like the Hollywood disease And you built shopping malls And prefabricated homes as test scores declined and suburbia exploded as the inner cities rotted and the carbon levels raised A desperate child: wailing against the past With no vision for the future As if consumption equals rebellion. And now you sit in your suburban estate where the sprinklers water the lawn and cars park proudly in the drive; you speak with not a smile on your face of how you can hardly stomach what has become of your country how it is over-commercialized over-sexed, drugged, stupid, fat, weak, shallow, and overrun with Mexicans; your son has no backbone and your daughter is a whore the seed grows in any direction towards sunlight You have even allowed what would swore you would never allow: another Vietnam |
