Can I Help?

It's hard to see the people you know
People you trust with all your heart
People you thought couldn't tear apart
Just walk away with sad eyes and heartache
Knowing there's no way to turn back time

And even with fake smiles, the pain still shows
Like a rose in a garden that never grows
Or like three green leaves holding  on strong
Then one falls down with no hope left of surviving
Even as it thinks that, its friends are stilll calling

I start to wonder if I can help
Maybe I can bring them together again
Make them closer, like new best friends
And make this conflict something in the past
Something forgotten as the days pass on

But one seems so distant
The other two worry, but don't interfere
They don't want a fight, they want to understand
Yet they distance themselves, not wanting to hurt again
And the pain's still there, in all their eyes
It's something I wish had never surfaced

I worry that I will be no help to them
What if I screw up and make the problem worse?
And if I did nothing, would that ever work?
But this memory of them always looking back
Makes me wonder if that's all they'll ever do
When they know time can't change the past

I finally see a glimmer of hope
Both in their eyes and mine
That this ordeal will soon end
With happy tears from a friend
That the problems in the past
Weren't ever made to last
And they'll be happy that I helped
And they'll see that time can heal itself
