FANCY OR GESTURE?


Neither she conceals her charm
Nor does her face reveal.
What should I make out of this?
How should my heart then feel?

I have no doubt that she, too,
Has a burning desire,
But out of modesty she
Does not reveal her fire.

I wish that she asks herself
And tell me what to do
When she comes in my dreams and
Torments me all night through.

Our love is infamous now
And this I sometimes rue,
But I cannot forget her,
This is forever true.

Let her tell me what’s my fault?
Why so angry she seems?
If she would not come to me,
Why haunts me in my dreams?

Whether she loves me or not,
How shall I ever know?
Maybe through mock anger she
Her love truly does show.

Is it my fancy that her
Veil slips innocently?
Is it her gesture that is
Shown rather prudently?

भरम या अदा

न हमसे मुख़ातिब होते हैं न अपना हुस्न छिपाते हैं
क्या कहिये उन की फ़ितरत को न आते हैं न जाते हैं

उठते होंगे उनके दिल में भी अरमां तो पुरज़ोर मगर
वो शर्म-हया के मारे हैं कुछ कहने से शर्माते हैं

वो पूछ लें ख़ुद अपने दिल से और पूछ के हम को बतला दें
दिल को हम कैसे बहलायें जब ख़्वाबों में तड़पाते हैं

यूँ तो बदनाम बहुत हो कर निकले हैं उन के कूँचे से
पर दिल में हैं लाचार बहुत, मुड़-मुड़ कर वापस आते हैं

है कौन ख़ता जो कर बैठे इतना तो बतला दें हमको
ग़र मिलना न चाहें तो फिर क्योंकर ख्वाबों में आते हैं

तदबीर कोई ऐसी होती हम उनका राज़ समझ पाते
दिल ही दिल में वो भी हमसे क्या प्यार कभी फ़रमाते हैं

है सिर्फ़ भरम मेरा या फिर इसमें है ख़लिश अदा उन की
दामन उन का गिर जाता है या अपने आप गिराते हैं.
