An Angel Smiles

It was a wet, dreary day with gray clouds.  She walked from the bus back to her house.  She had not driven a car since the accident.  She was afraid.  There was much less chance of getting hurt in a bus, she thought to herself.

Just a year ago, her fiancé was driving in a blustery snowstorm.  They were on their way home.  The roads were snow covered and slippery.  An oncoming car lost control and was fishtailing.  They saw him coming right towards them, but there was nothing he could do.  The police and ambulance arrived.  She was bent over in the front passenger seat, and saw the officer's shoes at her side.  She could not lift her head.  Her back was broken.  They carefully removed her from the car and put her into the ambulance.

She asked where he was and they told her he was in the other ambulance.  She sighed with relief and as she looked out the door, she saw him in the back of the other ambulance and he smiled and said, "Everything will be ok, I am fine."

When she got to the hospital, they cleaned the blood off and took x-rays.  While still pulling the glass out of her face, she asked again, where he was.  They told her they were sorry but he did not make it.  She told them that he must be all right because she saw him smile at her and told her everything would be ok when she was in the ambulance.  They told her that was impossible because he died on impact.

She still remembers the smile and knows she has an angel watching over her and "Everything will be ok."
