this is an indian patriotic poem, about the sacrifice of a man who was gandhi's follower.
this poem is dedicated to the freedom fighters who willingly gave up their lives for their country.

in personification of a male warrior;

Dressed in white khadi,
I stood in the line of protesters,
behind a frail, bald man,
clad in a white dhoti.
I raised my eyes to heaven, in prayer
I knew I may not last through the day
but I didn't care,
for I would take my revenge today
without raising a hand.
I looked with wrath at the uniformed devils,
who waved their whips with vicious vigour
I recived my blows without hesitatation
eye-contact with that enemy.
that devil's eyes flickered with mercy
yet he whipped on, on the bidding
of that uniformed white-man behind he
pain built up, but I showed naught of it,
'til my legs gave way
and I slipped
mercy overtook the man before me
as he threw down his weapon and stedied me
that merciless man behind him took his place
whipped that friend who once, had beat me.
yet he raised no hand upon his former boss,
but recived his whips willingly
now despite the pain he carried me,
as my heavy eyes closed as he gently
carried me off the bloody feild.
when I opened my eyes again
I saw before me
the face I most wanted to see;
that frail, bald man
clad in a white dhoti.
with a last great effort
I smiled into his peaceful eyes
clenched my fist and raised my hand,
and mouthed the words
"Jai...Hind..."
