5/07 For my brother's graduation. |
When roll call is sound for the final line and all of your brethren begin to combine take a moment to ponder in fifty years' time of all that will change and how it's defined. Life came a-callin'; you had a plan. Will you serve to be deserved as no other man? Did time change your ways or'd you just understand? Have you done all you could, the best that you can? This summer, stand out and enjoy the chance to love and to learn and to simply relax. Skinny-dip in a sea of new possibilities, screaming "there is no more but the best for me!" Take all the cake 'cuz it's what you earned and then take some more on the next person's turn. Defeat sellouts of the Cobain variety, telling the crowd "we already got your money!" Say hey, it's ok, and give it a rest. The one left laughing laughs the best. When you arrive in time of success expanding, happily you'll be the last man standing. When it's all said and done you'll be the last man standing. Isn't that something? Hey! Look but don't touch and I dunno 'bout you but I don't get it that much. Tell me art is fair and I'll tell you "pound dust." You know it too well when you know you've had enough. Everyone comes and goes in the end. Teachers and students; lovers and friends. The truth lies in what you contend. The trouble is maintaining it again and again and again. So say hey, it's ok, and leave it at that. Anyone left laughing laughs for the fact that you arrived on time as the party was ending and you will remain the last man standing. Yes you will remain the last man standing. So say hey, it's ok, and give it a rest. The last one laughing laughs the best. You've proved every theory wrong yet demanding and as a reward you're the last man standing. Yeah, ya did well and you're the last man standing. When roll call is sound for the final line and all of your brethren collapse and unwind, take a moment to ponder in fifty years' time how much you will change and how you're defined. Life comes and goes and it does 'til the end; brothers and sisters, lovers and friends. The truth lies in what you contend. The trouble is maintaining it again and again and again. |
