I slowly walk along a dirt road, kicking up dust with each step forward. I look to my left and see ducks floating lazily on the pond, a mirror image of the bright blue sky, a few more steps on my right is my grandparents’ house. As I approach this section of the road I feel as though I might burst due to the energy and excitement building up inside me. Stepping past the house and into the fields is like passing through a magic doorway and being whisked away into a completely different world. I also seem to have become different, almost as if I have gained an acuteness of the senses. The sun beats down upon my face causing my skin to tingle. I am almost drowned by the ocean like waves of green grass as it ripples towards me with the cool breeze. With each breath of air I seem to float just off the ground, ever closer to the birds that float without a care, in a sky that oddly looks like paint on canvas. The clouds float by, so large and apparently gentle, while harboring within a tendency for ferocious savagery, I watch them change shapes as I lie on pillows of grass. As the day draws to its end, the dwindling sun sets the distant treetops ablaze with fire and makes way for the goddess of the night sky. As the moon rises I can feel the atmosphere change; the air becomes cooler, and everything that was just bathed in light is fastly becoming shadow. Night has crept up quickly as the wild creatures of the forest slink out from the shadows and howl praises to the moon. Once again this world has transformed and so have I. the nights cold tendrils of breath embrace me, and with a surge of primal instinct I leap to my feet, and race off towards the edge of the forest. I reach a break in the trees and make my way along the path, winding through the dark, to my campsite so I can start a fire. As I curl up in my sleeping bag and drift off to sleep, I look forward to another day that I can take walk through time.
