Lola

It’s a brand new day and a new job, finally. The last one was murder on my mental stability. I’m a computer repair technician, and since I travel so much for my job my boss decided to give me a GPS. Hopefully, it’s because I just moved here and not because he believes I couldn’t find my way out of a paper bag. He says that he already tried out the GPS on his way to work. He said that she responds well to being called Lola. What was that supposed to mean? It’s a machine not a person. I was thinking about this, as I was driving down Main Street, when the thing spoke to me.

“Hello! What is your destination?”

I didn’t say any thing back. I ignored it. Huh, wrong move!

“What is your destination please?”

“Umm… Seventh and Bismarck.”

“Did you say Seventh and Hallmark?”

“What? No. Seventh and Bismarck.”

“Did you say Seventh and Hallmark?”

“No! It’s Bismarck.”

“Hallmark.”

“Bismarck.”

“Hallmark.”

“Bismarck.”

“Hallmark.”

“Hallmark. Aaah! I mean Bismarck.”

“Please make a U-turn.”

“What? Why?”

“Please make a U-turn.”

“I don’t want to make a U-turn.”
“Please make a U-turn.”

“Shut up you stupid machine!”

“You shut up!”

“What the heck?”

“You shut up!”

I couldn’t stop my self. I started beating my fists against the infernal machine. The thing started screaming bloody murder…. literally bloody murder. Finally, it stopped and the thing was silent.

“At last, some peace and quiet.”

“.............HALLMARK!!!!!”

“Aaaah! Women! They always have to have the last word.”
