A man reflects upon life. Minus my wierd annotations. |
Marc: Who has any idea what it's about? You know life? You start off living all those care free days as a child, sitting in classrooms doing finger paintings and shit. Then you go to secondary school, so they can teach you to sit exams and make you seriously think for a minute that you’re working towards something. You know what happens to 90% of us, we leave school, we leave our blazers and ties. We step into our suits and then it hits us, that decade or so of our lives we were climbing a mountain, we felt like we were getting somewhere but when we reach the top it’s a plateau, it’s flat and we haven’t got a slope to climb anymore. Get home from the same job year after year, day after day we haven’t learnt anything, we haven’t progressed anywhere as people. We get stuck with a woman we no longer feel anything for, the only reason we stay together is our interdependence, the man of the house goes out to bring home the money and his wife stays at home cleaning. I feel like a leech but at least I’m sucking the blood from another leech. Then of course, somewhere along the line you’re expected to “make that step” and have kids. How can people do it, it’s not just the smell of poo, the sleepless nights because the baby’s screaming the house down, no, it’s not that at all, it’s the thought that 20 years down the line my would be son or daughter is going to be where I am right now. I’m at the top of this mountain and I’m suffocating because there’s no oxygen in the air, I look down and I see climbers making their way to the top, wouldn’t you call out to them to turn back? You may think I’m taking a somewhat pessimistic view of life but really I’m not. It’s a situation I’ve been thrown into and I’m making the most of it. It wasn’t my choice, although I’ve had a lot of life experiences I’m really glad I’ve had and also a lot of really shit experiences but if; whilst I was in whatever place it is people are in before they’ve even been conceived someone had sent me a brochure, a brochure for life, would I have gone down to the nearest First Choice travel agents and booked my flight? |
