The city can be quite a lonely place, but maybe it doesn't have to be. |
The neon twilight of the city lights up the autumn sky; All these unfamiliar faces zoom, and blur, and pass me by. I’m lost within this city as I stumble through the streets; Trapped within a crowd of strangers I’m destined not to meet. These people are afraid of me for I am just a stranger in the crowd; I’d like to reach out and ask a name but I know that’s not allowed. It seems their hearts and minds have been poisoned with mistrust; Past betrayals and heart break have ground their good will into dust. Under the starry glow of midnight this soulless city feels so cold; But now I see the makings of a revolution are starting to unfold. I look deep within these people’s eyes and I see a certain spark; It represents a ray of hope that stands out boldly in the dark. Inside each and every one of them I see amazing inner strength; I hope to see their brave new world before my final breath. That world is one that’s without walls, where everyone’s united; Where we cast aside these barriers and stop being divided. Out of the darkness a shooting star blazes through the night; I can feel its essence burning although it’s just outside my line of sight. All the people of the city look up at the dark heavens above; They each make a silent wish that’s born purely out of love. That this hollow city may come to know of dawn break’s light; That may God smile upon this city and break the curse of endless night. |
