a little poem i wrote during a class. some sad, some happy.
One lonely little girl
Sits on a swing
Kicking her legs
half-heartedly

Waiting for Them
To ask her to play
Back and forth on
Her swing she sways

Jealousy burns in
her cheeks, rosy pink
As she sits on her
Swing, metal links clink

The children all play
In groups with their toys
And she sits and watches
The girls and the boys

They don't ask her to play
She's not welcome to join
Friendship's not bought
With her lonely coin

One lonely little boy
Watches our lonely girl
He can't take his eyes
From her honey-tone curls

Day after day
He sees her sway
While he watches her
She watches Them play

Red playground ball
Bounces to her
It lays at her feet
They're all staring at her

She picks it up
"Can I play too?"
but "We don't play
With the likes of you."

Lonely girl sits on
Her swing as she cries
Silent hurt tears
Pour from her eyes

Lonely boy's heart
Breaks with each tear
That slides down her cheek
From their jokes and their jeers

He gathers his courage
Gets up from the sand
He's holding a daisy
In his lonely boy hand

His thumb wipes away
The tears on her face
He offers the flower
In its humble grace

Lonely girl's tears
No longer flow
He takes her hand
And off they go

Lonely no more
Together they play
Forever and ever
This way, they stay.
