Flash Fiction: Write a story which includes a small book, gloves, and something yellow |
"Follow me, and don't fall behind", the woman turned and made her way toward the street. Tindo slowly got up, carefully put away his lute, then looked up to find the woman's stare find his eyes. The set of her body, hands on slender hips, told a tale of impatience and Tindo gave a shrug and began to limp toward her. Her quick spin did not hide her sigh but she did slow as she made her way through the noontime crowds. After several minutes of moving through narrow streets, then smaller alleys they came to a two story wooden building with a bright yellow door. Instead of entering the door, the woman moved around the building and took a narrow stair to the second floor, opened a door, then turned and beckoned the limping minstrel to join her. Once inside the building Tindo noticed a dark hallway, with several closed doors. The woman walked with confidence to the end of the hall and stopped at a solid door. Tindo followed, his hand reaching to a hidden knife, while his eyes adjusted to the dim filtered daylight from under the doors. When he finally reached the door she whispered, "Pick the lock." He hid his surprise at being put to work so quickly, but put down his travel sack then took out a pair of gloves and a set of metal tools and knelt. "Do you know if it is magically locked?" Tindo asked as he put on the gloves. "It isn't." He looked at the lock in the dim light, selected a tool and quickly had the door swinging open. The woman nodded and walked into the room. From his knees Tindo asked, "What are we after?" In answer the woman pulled from her robe a small book. |
