The joy of application essays

So, i didn't really know what to call this, but here's the deal. I'm applying for a journalism program to attend over the summer. I've tried writing it numerous times and there is only one problem, the world limit. On the application it specifies that it must be between 150-300 words. I am in desperate need of some advice here.

The prompt is "why i would like to attend the program"

I'm not asking for any specific help, just maybe some tips on how to write application essays (and short ones) in general. This will by my first. Any thoughts would be amazing!
