"You think she’s beautiful even now, her cheeks flushed prettily with guilt."
You think she’s beautiful even now—
Her dark hair mussed where his fingers ran through it,
Her cheeks flushed prettily with guilt.

She’s brushing her teeth in your bathroom,
Wearing your roommate’s old Zeppelin t-shirt—
You think she’s beautiful even now.

She says an awkward, “Good morning,”
Her words thick with toothpaste and hesitation,
Her cheeks flushed prettily with guilt.

She thought you were gone this weekend,
But here you are and she’s staring at you like you’re an oncoming car.
You think she’s beautiful even now.

While you’re watching each other silently,
He breezes in and kisses her forehead thoughtlessly.
Her cheeks flush prettily with guilt.

You suppose all those nights you stayed up talking and smoking,
Finding the threads that tied you together didn’t matter much after all.
But you think she’s beautiful even now,
Her cheeks flushed prettily with guilt.
