Bry meets old friend for second time, tensions get high. |
Coincidental Encounter 2 Bry had seen enough of Mandera and Santonix, and walked a little while into the woods. She was surprised when she saw Flynn standing there, leaning nonchalant against a tree as if he’d been waiting for her patiently. “You’re still here.” She said, halting a few steps in front of him. “Yes.” Was the only thing he said. “You don’t have a plan B, do you?” She hadn’t really thought of it before, but now that she spoke the words, she knew they were true. Flynn just smiled faintly. “No, I don’t.” Bry let out a soft sigh. “Why do you want to come with us?” “I need to go to Rome.” “Why don’t you go alone?” He took too long to answer and in that moment Bryseia understood that what he didn’t want to say. “You need us for your protection.” She said, it wasn’t a question. “We are your disguise.” Flynn looked away for a short moment and when his eyes sought hers again, his face looked serious, all hints of amusement had left his face. “I am loosing, Bry.” He said. It took a while for those words to sink in. But when they did, she was shocked. Flynn was here to ask her for help? He admitted he had lost, that he needed her? She sat down on a fallen tree that was lying near them. “It has to be quite serious for you to admit.” She said. “It’s only temporal. I need to get away from here and I won’t succeed alone. They will never guess I’m with you.” One of those words caught her attention and she looked at him. “Who’s they?” She asked, he didn’t answer. “Who’s they , Flynn?” She persisted. “Who are you running away from?” She knew he didn’t want to hear those words. Flynn never ran away from anyone. “I will tell you, once you’ve introduced me to the group.” He said. Bryseia laughed scornfully. “You are not exactly in the position to set your terms here.” She continued before he could answer. “Do you know we are going to Medio?” His facial expression made it obvious that he hadn’t known. He laughed shortly. “Well well, isn’t that a coincidence.” “I’m not sure I want to go there with you.” She said. “I can understand that…” He replied. “I can stay out of town for as long as you want.” Bry watched him. His dark grey eyes were still looking serious, not treacherous or amused, but serious. It was a seldom look. “So, let me just get this right. If I do not help you, it will be your downfall?” She asked. “Yes,” he replied, “I need you this time to help me.” Bry closed her eyes, murmuring: “let me savour this moment…” When she opened her eyes after half a minute, he was suddenly standing a few yards in front of her. He had moved without a sound. “I won’t beg you.” He said. “And you know you won’t need to. In contrary to you, Flynn, I can feel compassionate. Even for you.” “I wish I could say I don’t need it. But I do…” “If I do this for you…” She said. “Will you promise me that you won’t tell them about our past? If I want them to know anything, I will tell them. Not you. And you certainly won’t say a word about that marriage nonsense!” Her last words had lost the serious tone. He grinned, his serious and even slightly weak expression had vanished. “Promised.” He said. “This time it’s your life that’s in my hands, Flynn.” She said. She had gotten to her feet and now turned around to walk away. “I wouldn’t be too sure of that.” He murmured. But she didn’t pay any attention anymore. |
