I dream of you almost every night . . .
Hoping, wondering, imagining what you'll be like.
You'll have to be smart, funny, sincere, real;
that's how you'll steal
my heart away from me.
There are so many things I have left to ponder.
I close my eyes and let my mind wander.
I wonder how and when and where
our eyes will meet in a gazing stare.
Will it take long to know we belong
to each other lifelong?
In my twenty-five years, there have been many tears,
but I know you will calm all my fears.
We will work through problems together;
every storm we will weather.
I know you're out there somewhere and somehow, some way;
when the time is right, we'll find each other.
All I can say is I hope and I pray
for that moment in time when you will be mine.
NOTE:I wrote this when I was 25. It was about 6 months (give or take) before I met my husband.
This poem was published in an anthology in 2002.
