I invade my mental scrapbook holding visions of times past
Where my thoughts and memories gather for recollection
I go back to view them once again
Open to the lightness and pleasure that they bring to me
The visions dance across the screen
Images of our youth flickering on the black and white film
Features in the mists of my subconscious mind
The music of laughter embraces us in the warmth of the sun on our faces
Back before the dramatics fed animosity and confusion into the fires that fueled our lives
Running boys, dancing girls
The fun distracts our thoughts from the endless monotony of everyday life
Our spirits go wild in the peak of our lives
Together in harmony
Before the differences in our souls ripped through our friendships like a blade cutting an innocent throat
The brilliant smiles gathered together for the final bow
Closing credits composed of the still photos of our silly faces
And the film reel clicks to an end
A blank white screen flickers before me
The sounds of our calls echoing in my ears
"Best friends forever!" they shriek
I smile reflecting back on the years that our youth was bright like the sunshine that engulfed our faces
Now the memories remain a composed film
Kept on the shelves in the corners of my mind
Featured only in my dreams of the yester years.
