Heart Or Soul

My soul guides me through the darkness,
Back towards the light,
The darkness that engulfed me,
Slipping from my sight.

I can feel my heart beating,
The sound of its vibrations,
Raining in my soul.

As I race towards it,
My mind reveals the truth,
That slicing through the darkness,
Is slicing through my heart.

The darkness is part of me,
As is the light,
I cannot live with neither,
Nor can I live with both.

I must choose between the two,
The darkness or the light
But the choice is really,
My heart or my soul.

If I choose my heart,
I may yet love,
But will forever lose myself,
For that is my soul.

Yet if I choose my soul,
I will never love,
And if I cannot love,
Then I am not myself.
