All my teacher told us was to write a essay on V for Vendetta- which we saw about15min of
The movie “V for Vendetta” is a great movie, filled with symbolism and hidden meaning. The themes that are present in this movie are treachery, betrayal, heroism, bravery, and many other things. The movie is a tale of a man named V and his vendetta against the government. The cause of his vendetta are unknown initially but is gradually revealed throughout the length of the movie. He does many things to bring about the rise of the people and the fall of the tyrannical government.
There are many different themes and ideas present in this movie. The main theme is totalitarianism and invasion of privacy. Although that type of government was prompted by the extreme fear of the people, as Benjamin Franklin said, “Those who would give up liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” . The people gave up their privacy and most of their rights in order to get what they considered safety, and this is a prominent theme in the movie.
The last domino is, perhaps, the most important, or visible, symbol in this movie. The last domino can be interpreted in many different ways. The domino could stand for Evie, and the fact that she is the last piece of the puzzle, the last person who has to do something to finish what V started. The last domino could stand for V, and what he has to do to complete the plan. Another symbol in the movie was the blowing up of the parliament, which V gave his life to do. V said in the movie, “Buildings are symbols and so is the act of destroying them. Symbols are given power by people, and with enough people, blowing up a building can change the world.” The destroying of the parliament symbolized the destruction of a government, and the rise of the people and their freedom. V himself is a symbol. To the people, he is a idea, and stands for hope, and many other things, rather than an individual. They don’t show his face through out the movie, and in the conversation he has with Evie at the end of the movie, he says that he symbolizes an idea for the people.
The movie is a great one, and is filled with so much more than what is discussed here. V is a hero to the people and a terrorist to the government, but he’s much more than that. He stands for all of the people, and all of their hopes and dreams, and he also stands for the persecuted. V brings about the rise of the people, and the fall of a tyrannical government.
