Her end was the end for me |
Alas, my lass! Alas, my lass had quite an ass The other guys would gawk and follow They hoped that some lame line she'd swallow But happily, for me, she'd pass My gal was smart and thought them crass She scoffed at all the praises hollow Alas, my lass had quite an ass The other guys would gawk and follow Then one dread day it came to pass A guy came ‘round she found she'd follow So off she went, now I just wallow In self pity - for my lost lass Alas, my lass had quite an ass! * Rondel format - Two quatrains and a quintet, rhyming as follows: ABba abAB abbaA. The capital letters are the refrains, or repeats. (For the serious students of poetry, or those who care about nuances: while there isn't a specific meter requirement for a Rondel, I used iambic tetrameter for the A lines and iambic pentameter catalectic for the B lines, in other words 8 syllables da DUM da DUM da DUM da DUM for the A, and 9 syllables da DUM da DUM da DUM da DUM da for the B. I also chose to repeat the word follow for effect in line 10 even though generally I would not repeat a rhyme like that outside the refrain) * Honorable Mention in Rose's Poetry Challenge, Round 6 |
