A LONG WAY HOME In your eighty-fourth year, you lie curled in a fetal position, this is now your world. So many years it has taken its toll on you, Alzheimer's disease erasing memory too. So vibrant and alive you always have been, a mother, a beloved teacher, your only sin was loving too much and caring too deep. You deserve a rest, a much needed sleep. Pride in your family, pride in your career, when I needed you, you were always here. You gave comfort and courage, always love. An angel on earth, so soon an angel above. I can't let go of a sister, without any tears. You've been my mentor, casting out fears of failure, for you said that I could succeed at being a woman with an honorable creed. I know God is saving a special place for you, my faith is the only thing to carry me through. Time is running short, soon I will be left alone, but for you it has been such a long way home. The time comes for parting, for moving along. May you hear angels singing your favorite song. May the gates of Heaven open up wide for you and leave the bonds of earth, this is your due. Families are forever, for God has his own plan and I will be with you once more, soon as I can. No one knows the day, no one knows the hour, but blessed we are, to know His healing power.
