A call for authenticity in a superficial world
So lonely
Do the scars make us
So afraid of their rise to the surface
Haunted by ghosts cloaked in shame
They paint scarlett letters that spell my sin
Disfigurement is unacceptable
To all those wearing halos
They burn the unclean at the stake
They can't know what I am

Welcome to the masquerade
Put your mask on
And dance the night away
Enjoy your shallow serenade

Dancing with disconnection
Eyes wide shut behind blank faces
Behind the veil lies protection
From all the fakeness of this place
Distance ourselves for now
Until we find our fear
Bears no fruit here
What are you afraid of?

A failed approach
A night alone
A sea of laughs
A wall of stone
They came too close

Her hand outstretched
Faith fills an otherwise empty palm
Praying for the touch of another
Anticipation of being uncovered
But she still faces down

She waltzes around her loneliness
With a mysterious stranger
For deception knows all the right steps
Deep down, she knew the danger
As soon as the slow song started
The violins swelled over hollow words
Like a soundtrack of the broken hearted
The closing space sets off a panic
When masked men breach the comfort zone

She wants out
Suffocating
She wants out
Contents under pressure
Building to combustion
Burning from the inside out
Consumed by flame, beauty became
Charred behind white porcelain
Her tears soaked the ashes

Open your eyes
Fear no more
Your nightmare is over
Wake up dear
What do you fear?
What skeleton do you hide?
You are not the only one
With something locked up inside

Take a chance
Put your mask in his hands
You'll finally see
Your underlying beauty
It will set this place ablaze
You'll finally see
That scars don't equal ugly
You'll start to see
Your ghost haven start to empty
You'll finally see
Those halos finding gravity

I hope you know
How beautiful you are
Dancing with grace
Let your heartbeat race
Dance with grace
Until the last song plays
