Up north,
as in
far from the sea,
this current freezes for me—
and I walk on water.
Downstream,
and then off to the right,
the stream freezes
in the darkened night—
and I walk on water.
Not much further south,
there’s a frozen creek,
and it doesn’t matter
if I’m strong or weak—
I can walk on water.
Fish swim
under layers of ice,
but they can’t jump
or they pay the price—
and I walk on water.
Down south,
where the water runs,
and the old men
are all holding guns—
I can’t walk on water.
