In memory of Robert Orlin Russell Dec. 6 1962 -Jul. 28 2000
Walking into the house of God,
muffled sobs echo in the cavernous space.
Tenative steps mark my approach.

Trembling hands reach out,
skimming the pews in nervous movements.
My whole being vibrates with the beating of my heart,
a continual pounding like waves cresting on the beach.

Against my will,
like a puppet on a string,
I am pulled in.
my feet compelled to move.
My mind pleads with me to stop

The pounding reaches it's climax.
I feel faint from the sound.
I am nothing but the beat.

I arrive.
The beating slows
the brain focuses
I pause - so brief that pause.

There are no waves
There is no sun
There is no sound
Only clouds... but I bring the rain.
