What kinds of things are you catching in your net? |
Each morning he goes walking in a dream, transforming ordinary sights and sounds into visions of fantasy that stream through his head while he makes his daily rounds. The mystic kaleidoscope makes him beam from ear to ear as scenes leap forth in bounds. Space cadets rocket away from the bounds of gravity in pursuit of their dream to explore Mars and Jupiter. They beam their findings back on a mission that sounds absurd, ’til word of success makes the rounds. Then accolades flow in a steady stream. Autumn leaves floating in a gurgling stream become sturdy Spanish galleons bound for distant treasure. The ships are blown ’round in vicious storms, but the sailors still dream of becoming rich and the soothing sounds of lovely maids singing off the ship’s beam. Back home, our weaver lets a brilliant beam of inspiration guide him as words stream through his pen to capture the vibrant sounds and textures which, in due course, will be bound in volumes for all to share. That’s his dream as he continues to polish and round. A pirate ship quakes under booming rounds of cannon fire while it draws beam to beam with its prey to fight in quest of vile dreams. Then bloodthirsty brigands eagerly stream across the gunwales to secure the bounds of their victim while spouting vulgar sounds. A leprechaun, enchanted by the sounds of gypsy music, hoists another round of Irish brew before he sprightly bounds upon a toadstool, where he broadly beams in drunken pleasure while watching a stream of pixies dance by in his sotted dream. These sights and sounds, sprinkled into a dream and spun round, will produce a sparkling stream of lace to bound this web of vibrant beams. Author's note: The Sestina is a complex French verse form consisting of six stanzas with six lines in each stanza and a three-line envoy. The end words of the first stanza are repeated in a different order as end words in each of the subsequent five stanzas; the closing envoy contains all six words, as described in the following link: http://thepoetsgarret.com/2011Challenge/form21.html |
